The Parrot is inspired by satirical journalism and seeks to push the boundaries of traditional media. Comprising of ‘Fake’ articles written by Betoota Advocate, The Onion and myself, the strong typography highlights the witty headlines.

Junk Mail compliments the newspaper, creating different textural elements. The ‘You Need This’ Catalogue comments on fast fashion and consumerism, while the ‘Millennial Realty’ flyer talks of the challenges of breaking the housing market. Together, these components add to the overall goal of creating a newspaper that looks and feels like a newspaper yet is filled with humorous content that highlights a problematic government and relatable anecdotes.

Overall, the newspaper’s layout nods to traditional newspaper layout design, yet creates a more contemporary feel with negative space, rough illustrations, and bold colours.
